Additional Programs
RENTAL ASSISTANCE
When funding is available, rental assistance is provided to clients facing eviction. An eviction notice and a pending source of income for next month’s rent are needed to be eligible for this assistance.
UTILITY ASSISTANCE
Utility assistance is provided to clients facing a discontinuance of service. A discontinuance of service notice and a pending source of income for next month’s bill are needed to be eligible for this assistance. Assistance is provided for electricity and gas.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL PROGRAM
When a child is recognized by the school as being in need of clothing and shoes, that child’s parents are contacted and given a voucher to the Settlement House. That child is able to receive three outfits of clothing from our Thrift Store, new underwear, new socks, a voucher for new shoes from a local shoe store, plus a new backpack filled with school supplies. All siblings in the family are eligible for clothing. This is an ongoing, year-round program.
CHILDSPREE
In August, the Settlement House holds the annual Childspree at a local department store. Children, accompanied by a volunteer shopper, are able to select clothing and shoes with which they can start school. Additionally, each child receives a new backpack filled with school supplies.
EMERGENCY SHELTER
After screening, emergency shelter vouchers to a local motel may be provided for women and women with children.
HOMELESS OUTREACH
Homeless may come to the Settlement House Thrift Store once a week for a change of clothing. Jackets, blankets, backpacks, shoes, and hygiene kits are given as needed. Bagged lunches are available Monday through Friday from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM.
FINANCIAL AID
Financial aid may be provided – primarily for the homeless – for emergency medical prescriptions, emergency dental extractions, and emergency eyeglasses.
